Shigeyo Ohkawa

Tokyo, Japan

May 2, 2002

Here we are gathered in Shigeyo's new apartment with her daughter, Madoka and son, Taku.  There were three bedrooms, two bathrooms, living room, dining room, kitchen and music room.  Cozy and comfortable.

It is expensive to live in Tokyo.  Just parking her car at the apartment complex costs $200 per month.  And gasoline prices are similar to those in Europe; high.  Driving lessons are mandatory prior to receiving a license and cost several thousand dollars.  You would think that would be enough to discourage owning a car but not so.

We were treated to an enjoyable meal of three types of Japanese pizza and sushi plus other tasty morsels Shigeyo had purchased during our afternoon shopping spree.

Later that evening they drove us back to our hotel where we said our good-byes while looking forward to Shigeyo's visit to us in the fall of 2002.   Our trip could not have ended better, being with Japanese friends in the warmth and hospitality of their home.
