Rug Factory

Cappadocia, Turkey

June 5, 2001

Silk threads being made from the cocoons.  Nothing much has changed for centuries in the methods used for this process.  Here are husband and wife first boiling the cocoons then stripping the fine threads out in long strands.

Spinning the silk threads.  Yep, not too much is high tech.

Dying the silk threads.  The color is made fast.

One of the weavers on display for tour groups.  It is a labor intensive job and the women work long and diligently following the pattern to make a unique rug.
