The country is slightly smaller than the state of Oregon. Its population is approximately 22.5 million with approximately 2.5 million living in its capital, Bucharest. Romanians are the largest ethnic group at approximately 89%. Hungarians number 9%. Roughly 87% of Romanians are Orthodox Byzantine and about 5% are Roman Catholic.
