England 89
Stratford upon Avon - On our own

December 21 - January 1, 1989

Our first Time-Share adventure in Europe was at Walton Hall which was designed by the great Victorian architect Sir George Gilbert Scott.  The estate occupied 65 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds and formal gardens.  It was here that we met our dear friends Ted and Bunny Roland from California.

Our Christmas celebration was VERY quiet and was the only day we saw sunshine during the entire week.  We attended Mass in Stratford which was pleasant.

During our stay we rented a car and drove through the Cotswold's and visited Slymbridge, Gloucester.   Lawrence Bridger, a maternal ancestor, became Rector of  the Church of St. John the Evangelist at Slymbridge.  He remained Rector until his death in 1630.  The Reverend E. C. Charlesworth, Rector at the time of our visit, was a most gracious host.

After our stay at Walton Hall we returned to London for a few days staying in the palatial hotel pictured below (HA!), the second building from the right.  It was directly in front of Kensington Park, home of the Royals.

Among our numerous excursions, we managed to find time to shop in Harrods, the largest department store in the world.
